Ahhh Sports Illustrated (SI). How could I say I know what average guy wants to read without including SI? It has everything from beautiful girls to the hardest hits in Football. It goes deeper into the lives of athletes than ESPN or any internet article will. You will receive about an issue per week so for a magazine subscription you get more than your moneys worth. They consistently have the best photography of any magazine I have yet to read.
SI, along with its periodical issues has a few "special issues". These include NFL and College Football previews, NBA and College Basketball previews, MLB previews, NHL previews, Sportsman of the Year, and my favorite, the Swimsuit Edition.
While Sports Illustrated mostly includes articles on football, baseball, and basket than swimming, golf, and extreme sports (they still have articles about those sports) everything is well written and never becomes repetitive. SI has some of the most well written articles out there and a mile over any of its direct competitors (This means you, ESPN!). They go deep into the minds of the athletes. SI just goes much deeper than anything you will see on TV or read online; it does so much more than just review the events that have happened. It explains why.
Even with today's instant news the internet and television provide us with, Sports Illustrated is the gold standard for sports coverage. Their articles are all well written, some even mesmerizing. They tell the complete story and make you feel like you are in the athletes shoes. The employee some of the best photographs out there and you can tell more about the sports event from their single photo then watching it on live television; they truly are breathtaking. SI should be bought by anybody who considers them half a sports fan, and at just under $40 per year (56 issues) it is the best value you can find for almost any magazine. It's a must give gift to any sports fan
